Have you tried in the past and succeeded? Or failed? Given up? Or even forgotten what they were?<br><br>Here are my 5 tips to keeping New Year\u2019s resolutions. And I can tell you they work. They\u2019ve helped me write five books, make many films, and much more.<br><br>The trick is not difficult, you just have to do it. Five tips:<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Eb5kpEZ7bTA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>1. Make it short<\/strong><br><br>One sentence. No waffling. Be clear what you&#8217;re aiming to do.<br><br><strong>2. Make it positive.<\/strong><br><br>If your resolution is something you don&#8217;t want to do, you&#8217;ll end up focusing on what you don&#8217;t want. <br><br>If you resolve (say) to spend less time on social media, your mind will keep coming back to social media.<br><br>Instead turn it into what you do want to do instead. Such as, spend time with your friends, go for a walk, come to Aikido&#8230;<br><strong><br>3. Write it on paper<\/strong><br><br>Writing on paper makes it more solid and real. Put that paper somewhere you&#8217;ll see it regularly.<br><br><strong>4. Tell someone<\/strong><br><br>That&#8217;s possibly the hardest step, but the most important. It shows your unconscious mind that you are serious, so it will get on your side.<br><br><em>My resolution this year is to say &#8220;No&#8221; more often &#8211; to<\/em>\u00a0<em>free up my time to do what&#8217;s important: write more novels, read more novels, practise more Aikido\u00a0and spend time with those I love.<\/em><br><br>There, I&#8217;ve shared it. Feel free to check up on me through the year.<br><br><strong>5. Decide on the smallest possible first step<\/strong><br><br>The first step is crucial. Without it, there&#8217;s no second. So make it as small and easy as possible. Then the second step will follow. And the third. And the fourth&#8230;<br><br><em>My first step will be to stop writing this.<\/em><br><br>Will there be missteps along the way? Will I forget and fall short at times? For sure. But I&#8217;ll keep coming back to it.
